Ammar Campa Najjar claims to be a Latino-christian Democrat candidate from CA50 on the East side of San Diego.
This is his second run in the same constituency. In his 2018 run against Hunter, he had out-raised Hunter as per San Diego Tribune. He converted to Christianity in High School. Some of his detractors feel that he has fooled many of his constituents over his faith and that he still retains his father’s connections to Hamas and also a deep resentment against Israel & the United States. His opposition to Zionism is well documented by many of his earlier speeches. Zionism Vs Judaism, reflects his position on that matter. In his loss against Duncan Hunter, he called ‘bigotry’ as one of the main reasons for his loss. Calling others who didn’t support his campaign as bigoted is also hypocrisy. In democracy, all views are welcome as long as it contributes to a stronger society. His time in Gaza and his early faith based education hasn’t been disclosed to the public yet.
His public image seems to be highly curated for the American Eyes.
He has been proposing the safety of religious places, however, he has not addressed the faiths of thousands in his constituency who are neither Muslims, nor Jews, nor Christians. There are a large number of constituents who do not fall under any of the category of faiths that he mentioned. His position on Hindus, Buddhists, Ex-Muslims and Native Americans is not clear. His position on Israel and Terrorism is also not clear. His monetary support base is largely Iraqi & Syrian refugees and Chaldeans who reside in CA50. His position on Job creation depends on Federal grants and budgets. That speaks of his socialistic mindset that he developed over the years. There is nothing for local innovation through private enterprise. Can Americans change their capitalistic economic model? How much does his middle-east and socialist policies do justice for Americans? He follows the democrat philosophy of large government which is unfeasible for the constituency that he represents. His policy on Taxes is also not clear. He largely supports high taxes as per his democrat party positions which is untenable in the near or long term future for the residents of CA50. His position on immigration is largely democrat position of Gavin Newsome. His position on congress reforms needs clarification because Congressmen get paid much higher nowadays with low accountability. His position on the Second Amendment is also not clear.
Darrell Issa is a Lebanese American with good experience in bipartisan politics in the US Congress.
His past contribution to CA49 has been highly appreciated by constituents of CA49. Most of his policies and positions are in line with the constituents of CA50 which is a traditional Republican voter base. His policies on merit based immigration is in line with the American ethos of competitiveness and inclusiveness. His support for the Patriot Act is in line with the constituents of CA50. His position on low taxes is well known to all. Being a private successful businessman, he understands the need for innovation to spur the local economy which is what is needed in CA50. His position on Border Management is in line with the constituents of CA50. His position on abortion and forced usage of birth control is in line with the constituents of CA50. His support for the second amendment protects the rights of Americans to own guns for self defense. His position on Jobs and trade is in line with American dream and American innovation. His position on Sanctuary cities is also in line with most Americans in his constituency. Darell Issa has been vocal against Human Trafficking and has acted to protect the human rights of victims through strong law enforcement and legal prosecution. Darell Issa has a history of working across the aisles which is crucial in passing key resolutions for the benefit of all Americans. That requires experience and a strong ethical mindset. His open support for the faith of large number of Hindus, Buddhists, Native Americans and other religious minorities has been well established. His position on faith is in line with American Constitution.
His open support for merit based immigration is well accepted and appreciated across party lines.
To summarize, Darell Issa is very clear on the priorities and policies for CA50. Ammar Campa Najjar’s policies and priorities are vague.
Clearly, Darell Issa has an edge over his opponent both in terms of experience and delivery. Voters will gain more if they choose Issa over his democrat opponent.
